For decades, China has been the global manufacturing leader and is known as the “factory of the world”. The country’s manufacturing industry is at the forefront of efficiency and production quality. However, over the past decade, Vietnam has emerged as a competitor in this field.

South Korea’s Samsung Group currently has large factories in both China and Vietnam, exporting millions of smartphones to the world market each year. According to analysts, the quality of products from these factories is no different.

“In terms of quality, Samsung devices manufactured in Vietnam are exactly the same as those manufactured in China,” said Lam Nguyen, research director at market research firm IDC.

According to analysts, not only in phones, Vietnamese factories have made rapid progress in the past few years and are competing with China in many other products. This trend could be a disadvantage for China as it faces a second trade war with the US during the upcoming term of President-elect Donald Trump.

“The challenge for Vietnam now is to catch up with China in terms of prices in export categories where economies of scale and prices play a crucial role,” said Mr. Vettoretti. “Currently, Vietnam’s consumer electronics and electric vehicles are still far behind China in terms of variety and supply capacity.”
