On the morning of December 14, the first meeting of the National Steering Committee on Semiconductor Industry Development took place.
At the meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that, in the trend of diversifying supply chains and complicated geopolitical developments in the world, Vietnam is emerging as an attractive destination for investors in the semiconductor industry thanks to: High-quality human resources with competitive costs; strong investment and upgrading of infrastructure; increasingly open and transparent mechanisms and policies; high political determination of the Party and State leaders, especially the attention and close direction of the Prime Minister.
Vietnam currently has 174 FDI projects in the semiconductor sector with a total registered capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD. Typically, Samsung plans to invest in two semiconductor testing and packaging factories in Vietnam with a total estimated investment capital of about 4.1 billion USD.
In particular, for the world’s number 1 technology group, NVIDIA, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with relevant agencies to establish two groups, including the Cooperation Implementation Working Group and the Negotiation Group with NVIDIA.
These two groups have discussed and worked with NVIDIA to attract investment, concretize cooperation plans and have achieved many breakthrough results, bringing great resonance and raising the position of Vietnam in the region and in the world as a destination for high technology, semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence.
Specifically, NVIDIA has signed agreements with a number of partners on shifting production chains from other countries to Vietnam, with a commitment to invest from 4-4.5 billion USD in the next 4 years. This will help create about 4,000 direct jobs and about 40,000-50,000 indirect jobs in the coming years.
