Chinese electronics giant Goertek is seeking permission to expand its production site in Vietnam’s northern province of Bac Ninh by 25 hectares.

A Goertek delegation disclosed the information at a meeting with Bac Ninh authorities on Monday, the first working day after the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet).

The delegation also urged provincial authorities to support the firm with work permits for foreigners and construction of roads connecting to the factory, located in Nam Son-Hap Linh Industrial Park.

Backing Goertek’s activities in Vietnam, Nguyen Anh Tuan, chief of Bac Ninh’s Party Committee, asked relevant agencies to collaborate with the electronic giant. He also called on Goertek to provide training courses outside Vietnam for Vietnamese experts.

Goertek should also invest in building a research & development (R&D) center in Bac Ninh, Tuan added.

Goertek has invested over $1.3 billion in Bac Ninh province, including two projects of $625 million in Que Vo Industrial Park and two others of $690 million in Nam Son-Hap Linh Industrial Park.

Notable products are telecommunications items and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). For 2025, the firm plans to increase its Vietnamese workforce to 60,000 people.
