According to the development plan of the Capital region until 2030, five localities adjacent to Hanoi are expected to be upgraded to cities, including two districts of Bac Ninh, two districts of Hung Yen and one town of Ha Nam. These localities are all adjacent to Hanoi, some only about 20 km from the center of the capital.
Yen Phong and Tien Du districts (Bac Ninh province):
– Yen Phong: Located in the west of Bac Ninh, 29 km from the center of Hanoi, with an area of about 96 km² and a population of about 211,000 people. Yen Phong is considered the “industrial capital” of Bac Ninh, notable for Yen Phong Industrial Park, where the Samsung factory is located with a total investment of 9.3 billion USD, accounting for 49% of Samsung’s total investment in Vietnam. In 2024, the total product value of the district is estimated to reach nearly 884,000 billion VND, the average income per capita is 76.5 million VND/year.
– Tien Du: Located in the West of Bac Ninh, 25 km from the center of Hanoi, the area is about 96 km², the population is more than 195,000 people. Tien Du attracts strong investment with three industrial parks: Tien Son, Dai Dong – Hoan Son and part of VSIP, the total industrial land area is about 10 km². In 2024, the total product value of industry and construction is estimated to reach more than 77,600 billion VND, the total budget revenue is 2,055 billion VND.
Van Giang and Van Lam Districts (Hung Yen Province):
– Van Giang: Located in the Northwest of Hung Yen, 20 km from the center of Hanoi, with an area of about 72 km² and a population of more than 123,000 people. Van Giang is famous for Ecopark urban area, one of the largest ecological urban areas in the North, with an estimated total investment of about 10 billion USD.
– Van Lam: Located in the North of Hung Yen, bordering Hanoi, with an area of about 74 km² and a population of about 125,000 people. Van Lam has Pho Noi A Industrial Park and many other industrial clusters, attracting domestic and foreign investment.
Duy Tien Town (Ha Nam Province):
– Located in the North of Ha Nam, bordering Hanoi, with an area of about 120 km² and a population of about 150,000 people. Duy Tien has Dong Van Industrial Park, attracting many FDI enterprises, making an important contribution to the local budget. Upgrading these localities to cities not only expands Hanoi’s urban space but also promotes economic, social and regional infrastructure development, creating momentum for the overall development of the capital region.
